HOT CREEK

Fly Fishing Hot Creek: Flies & Tactics

Hot Creek is the Eastern Sierra’s technical proving ground - a gin-clear spring creek packed with educated wild trout that have seen every fly in the box. It’s not the place for big, sloppy presentations. It is the place to sharpen your game.
Success on Hot Creek comes down to small flies, light tippet and surgical drifts. Trout rise to Blue-Winged Olive and caddis hatches throughout the day, and selective feeding is the norm. The canyon section typically fishes a little better than the interpretive site simply because it sees less pressure. Get low, cast accurately, and earn every take.
Hot Creek fishes well across the season, with consistent hatches from spring into fall. Bring your finest tippet and your patience.
